The Prelude in A-Major is one of Chopin’s shortest works. Not quite so easy to play as it sounds, it is in the style of a mazurka. It barely lasts for a single minute, but it’s one of the most famous pieces he ever composed. Because of its captivating simplicity, many movies, television programs, and even advertisements have used it in one way or another. Words have repeatedly been set to it; composers have paraphrased it (Alfredo Casella) and written mighty symphonic variations on it (Zygmunt Noskowski).Background
Written partly during Chopin’s catastrophic wintertime stay on Majorca, the 24 Preludes in all major and minor keys are some of the composer’s most mysterious works.
